How to Calculate Rebar Weight Manually?
Site engineers often need to calculate steel weight on the fly without digital tools. The universal formula used worldwide is based on the density of steel (7850 kg/m³).
The Formula:
W = (D² / 162) × L
- W: Weight of the bar (kg)
- D: Diameter of the bar (mm)
- L: Length of the bar (m)
- 162: Constant derived from steel density
Example Calculation
Imagine you need to order 50 pieces of 12mm bars, each 12 meters long.
- Step 1: Find D² → 12 × 12 = 144
- Step 2: Divide by 162 → 144 / 162 = 0.888 kg/m (Unit Weight)
- Step 3: Multiply by Length → 0.888 × 12m = 10.66 kg (Per Bar)
- Step 4: Multiply by Quantity → 10.66 × 50 = 533 kg (Total)
