Smart Ohm's Law Calculator

Calculate Voltage (V), Current (I), or Resistance (R).

Understanding Ohm’s Law: The Foundation of Electronics

Ohm’s Law is the most fundamental formula in electrical engineering. It states that the current flowing through a conductor is directly proportional to the voltage across it and inversely proportional to the resistance.

Think of electricity like water flowing through a pipe:

⚡️ Voltage (V - Volts): The water pressure pushing the water.
🌊 Current (I - Amps): The amount (flow rate) of water flowing.
🛑 Resistance (R - Ohms Ω): The size of the pipe. A narrower pipe (higher resistance) restricts the flow.

The 3 Formulas Used in This Calculator:

To calculate Voltage: V = I × R

To calculate Current: I = V / R

To calculate Resistance: R = V / I

Engineering Pro Tip: Always ensure your units are correct before calculating. If you have milliamperes (mA) or kilohms (kΩ), convert them to standard Amps and Ohms first using our Unit Converter Tool.
